ideas that i'll forget if i don't write them down
Transactions and the institutional economics of Bill Cronon's Nature's Metropolis--the process of commodification was really one of changing ideas, attitudes, and behaviors regarding transactions and customs...the causal shift is NOT between man and nature, but rather between the transactions of men as they pertain to 'natural' objects...
The American Dream as an institution--how has it historically been in control, liberation, and expansion of individuals--ie, boosterism, cowboys...
TV pilot episode: names first, but we have to have something about mercantilism (re: 'bullion...BOO YAH!!!')...
on economics
So John Commons was an unheralded genius, and anyone ever again inquires as to why I went to the UW--Madison, I'm going to say because he taught there. If you've ever wanted to understand economics as it OUGHT to be and as it is more honestly practiced, start here. Studying economics should be an awful lot more like studying history or anthropology. Think 'relationships'.

music for Chrismakah, part one
The Walkmen--first they are on the OC, then they have to do something like this...and totally redeem themselves. Actually, I was ecstatic for them to be on the Orange County 'cause, like Isaac Brock said, "Figuring out how to pay the rent isn't a tough decision...I like keeping the lights on in my house." By the way, that is probably one of the funniest interviews I have ever read. Mr. Brock is awesome.
Anywho, so here's the first song of the holidays, and it's the Walkmen, so prepare to have it burned on your brain til Christmas Day. I wish it would snow here--80 degrees in November is so ridonkulous, even by New Orleans' standards...
oh, music
TV on the Radio rawked so much last night; the third time was definitely the best show I have seen of them yet. The coolest part about it was that I saw them in Madison for FREE at the very beginning of their tour, and last night was literally the last show of said tour. There's just something about that band--they do something very, very right that is on the gospel/R&B impulse of rock & roll. I feel the need...the need...for dancin (even though it really embarasses the people I happen to be with at the time. You can't help yourself.)
Brian comes in tonight, which is fucking tremendous. So do the Reardons, and then Rachel K comes in tomorrow. Wednesday night apparently is the big going out night for T-giving 2k4. Fine by me.
Still deciding about Vegas for New Year's...I don't really have any desire to go to LV, save because the friends I love are going there. So we'll see.

i pulled a bridget jones
On Wednesday night I spoke with Sam while she was at the pre-Thanksgiving dinner, and I was sad I wasn't there, so I ate some dark chocolate with almonds and passed out on the couch.
Thank god it's Friday. The OC was fantastic last night, and I cannot believe that the Walkmen have done so well for themselves. Fuck selling out...they're on the OC!
Julie's story about the zoo was hilarious. Tatas is such a funny word. And I assure you that when I was 6 I had no idea what those kids now know.
I've been home alone the entire week, and the parental units don't get home until Sunday--so I'm having a big bbq tomorrow for Blatch and his Tulane 1L friends, Erica, Kio, Lizard, Lindsay Hevron?
Aight, I've now successfully wasted an entire morning.
